Welcome to Cards From Destiny |
How it all began... In the Fall of 2005, a co-worker of my Dad's, Randy Green, came to our house. I was 10 years old. He told me that his son, Cody Green, was in the Air Force and serving in Kirkuk, Iraq. I asked if he thought Cody might like a Christmas card from me even though we had never met. I was told to go the the anysoldier.com website and look up his name to get his address which I did. Anysoldier.com is a website where servicemen and women can leave postings of things that they need while serving away from home. I read Cody's listing and then some of the others. It didn't take long to realize that they were doing without a lot of things like shampoo and soap, but what they really wanted was cards and letters from home. I had $20 saved from babysitting and decided to buy cards for my family and friends to sign.  I was able to collect 578 cards in 3 weeks. Cody's family mailed those to him to distribute on his base. Cody emailed me and thanked me for what I had done. He said that those cards touched the men and women on the base and it helped to make their Christmas away from home a little easier to deal with. The more I read and heard about what the troops where dealing with, I knew had to continue to do what I could to show them we appreciated what they were doing. I bought Christmas cards on clearance with money that was given to me as a gift. I had everything I needed already and couldn't think of a better way to spend it. One card equals one smile and it was money well spent. I soon set a goal of sending 2,000 cards to the troops for Christmas 2006 but with help from my family, friends and people in the community, I was able to collect and send 3,600 greetings to the troops plus 200 goodie bags for Christmas morning filled with candy, chapstick, hot cocoa and more. In 2007 I continued asking people to sign cards and write letters. I set my goal for 4,000 cards and was able to send 7,406!! On December 6, 2007, The Washtenaw County (Michigan) Marine Corps League Detatchment #414, made me an Honorary Marine for my efforts in supporting the troops. Here I am trying to support the troops and the Veteran's are supporting me in my efforts! I was so touched and honored to be called a Marine. I met some brave men who served in World War II, The Korean War, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. I feel like I have a whole new big family. 2008 was a very busy year!! Over 14,000 cards were sent to very deserving men and women. People from across the country sent signed cards and letters for me to send to our military personnel. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #310, Ann Arbor, MI, sent thousands of cards for me. An Organization in Illinois called Operation Santa was very happy that I gave them over 5000 cards to put in home made stockings filled with goodies for the troops. Some quilters and friends in Belleville even sewed over 500 Christmas stockings to donate to this wonderful organization. |

I would like to dedicate this update in honor of a great friend and Vietnam Veteran, Gary Lillie. Gary was struck and killed by a drunk driver near his home in Dexter, Michigan, this summer. It completely turned my world upside down. Gary could be heard on Veteran's Radio every Saturday morning at 9 AM. He volunteered his time and energy to help those less fortunate. I am a better person having had Gary as a friend and supporter of Cards From Destiny. Just days before he was taken from us he posted on his facebook page this very website to promote my project. He suggested that I get an update on here soon. His encouraging words will stay with me forever. PLEASE, please, don't drink and drive.** Â Hello Friends and Supporters of our Troops and Veterans! It's been a busy 2011. My Dad, Mike Eadie, has been helping to get an addition put on the home of a wounded soldier who was paralyzed from the waist down. We've been going to fundraisers and watching over the building progress. Chris Ochs was only 19 when the vehicle he was riding in hit an IED. He had only been 'in country' for 9 days! He is living in Flat Rock, Michigan now and waiting for the addition to be finished on his mother's home. |

Cards From Destiny will accept any unused Christmas cards you may have left over from previous years-even if there are only a few. I'll also take full, new boxes too. The $1 stores are a great place to pick up Christmas cards! One dollar can buy 10-20 cards there! REMEMBER...! Card = 1 Smile I’ll put every card to use bringing a bit of happiness half way across the world to one of our own heroes! Don't have cards? Don't have money to donate?? NO PROBLEM!! You can STILL help!! THANK A VETERAN! Not a day goes by that I don't see a man or woman with a hat or t-shirt on declaring them as a Veteran! Simply ask, "Did you serve?" and thank them. It doesn't cost a thing, just a moment of your time! (And considering what they put on the line for us, it seems like a small gesture-but to them will mean so much!!) Plus it will make YOU feel good too! Try it!! You'll see!! Cards or donations can be sent to: Destiny Eadie Cards From Destiny PO Box 324 Belleville, MI 48112 email me atÂ
