Welcome to Cards From Destiny
How it all began...
In the Fall of 2005, a co-worker of my Dad's, Randy Green, came to our house. I was 10 years old. He told me that his son, Cody Green, was in the Air Force and serving in Kirkuk, Iraq. I asked if he thought Cody might like a Christmas card from me even though we had never met. I was told to go the the anysoldier.com website and look up his name to get his address which I did.  Anysoldier.com is a website where servicemen and women can leave postings of things that they need while serving away from home. I read Cody's listing and then some of the others. It didn't take long to realize that they were doing without a lot of things like shampoo and soap, but what they really wanted was cards and letters from home. I had $20 saved from babysitting and decided to buy cards for my family and friends to sign.   I was able to collect 578 cards in 3 weeks. Cody's family mailed those to him to distribute on his base. Cody emailed me and thanked me for what I had done. He said that those cards touched the men and women on the base and it helped to make their Christmas away from home a little easier to deal with. The more I read and heard about what the troops where dealing with, I knew had to continue to do what I could to show them we appreciated what they were doing. I bought Christmas cards on clearance with money that was given to me as a gift. I had everything I needed already and couldn't think of a better way to spend it. One card equals one smile and it was money well spent. I soon set a goal of sending 2,000 cards to the troops for Christmas 2006 but with help from my family, friends and people in the community, I was able to collect and send 3,600 greetings to the troops plus 200 goodie bags for Christmas morning filled with candy, chapstick, hot cocoa and more. In 2007 I continued asking people to sign cards and write letters. I set my goal for 4,000 cards and was able to send 7,406!! On December 6, 2007, The Washtenaw County (Michigan) Marine Corps League Detatchment #414, made me an Honorary Marine for my efforts in supporting the troops. Here I am trying to support the troops and the Veteran's are supporting me in my efforts! I was so touched and honored to be called a Marine. I met some brave men who served in World War II, The Korean War, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. I feel like I have a whole new big family. 2008 was a very busy year!! Over 14,000 cards were sent to very deserving men and women. People from across the country sent signed cards and letters for me to send to our military personnel. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #310, Ann Arbor, MI, sent thousands of cards for me. An Organization in Illinois called Operation Santa was very happy that I gave them over 5000 cards to put in home made stockings filled with goodies for the troops. Some quilters and friends in Belleville even sewed over 500 Christmas stockings to donate to this wonderful organization.

What Is Happening Now
Written by Destiny
Hello friends and supporters of our troops!!What a year it's been! I've been going to festivals with the Marine Corps League Detachment #414 all summer asking people to sign Christmas cards and thank you cards for our troops. I've also been able to help them with their fund raising efforts. It's always time well spent when I'm with my friends at the #414. A big THANK YOU goes out to them for helping me with my project, Cards From Destiny. "Semper Fi" is something that Marines say. It means "always faithful." It's not just words. It’s something you feel in your heart and soul. I know that when they say semper fi to me, they will always watch over me and be there when I need them! WOW! What a great feeling that is!On November 14th, 2009, we attended the Marine Birthday Ball in Saline, Michigan. Little did I know that they were going to honor me with a "Distinguished Citizen's Award". My parents, Mike and Shada Eadie, each received the Citizen’s Award as well! We were presented with certificates; awesome jackets with our names embroidered on them, and personalized challenge coins!  They left us speechless! Glenn Timpe of the #414 took us by surprise when he called each of us in front of the crowd. He also presented me with a wooden plaque that has the Marine emblem on it and a K-Bar with "Operation Iraqi Freedom" inscribed on the blade. To have those men and women that I look up to and admire honor me like that just blew me away! THEY are the heroes, not me. I am proud to stand beside them as an Honorary Marine of the #414 and will continue doing all that I can to support our troops and the Veteran's here at home. THANK YOU and SEMPER FI to my friends at the #414!!!!

Don't have cards? Don't have money to donate?? NO PROBLEM!!
You can STILL help!!
THANK A VETERAN!
Not a day goes by that I don't see a man or woman with a hat or t-shirt on declaring them as a Veteran! Simply ask, "Did you serve?" and thank them. It doesn't cost a thing, just a moment of your time! (And considering what they put on the line for us, it seems like a small gesture-but to them will mean so much!!) Plus it will make YOU feel good too! Try it!! You'll see!!
