Welcome to Cards From Destiny |
How it all began... In the Fall of 2005, a co-worker of my Dad's, Randy Green, came to our house. I was 10 years old. He told me that his son, Cody Green, was in the Air Force and serving in Kirkuk, Iraq. I asked if he thought Cody might like a Christmas card from me even though we had never met. I was told to go the the anysoldier.com website and look up his name to get his address which I did. Anysoldier.com is a website where servicemen and women can leave postings of things that they need while serving away from home. I read Cody's listing and then some of the others. It didn't take long to realize that they were doing without a lot of things like shampoo and soap, but what they really wanted was cards and letters from home. I had $20 saved from babysitting and decided to buy cards for my family and friends to sign. |

Hello Friends It's been awhile since my last update and I apologize. A group of around 25 eighth graders from South Middle School in Belleville, Michigan went to Washington D.C. earlier this month. I had never been there before and enjoyed seeing the memorials. It was a really neat experience. I got to see the presidential motorcade which was pretty exciting. Arlington National Cemetary was not at all what I thought it would be. It's hard to put words to it. The graves show the endless sacrifices our service men and woman have made for me-for you-for us all. We seen the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Wow. It left me speechless. I'd love to go back to Washington D.C. on my own time and spend it where I want to. I would like to go back to Arlington and the Memorials. I was able to get a rubbing off of the Vietnam Wall for my family. My second cousin, Nevin Farnsworth Jr. was killed in Vietnam after being there only 4 months. I have been pretty sick and unable to go to school for much of the month of May but am slowly recovering. My parents did get me outside for a little while able to attend a flag burning ceremony that the Vietnam Veteran's Post #310 put on to retire some American flags properly. I was able to burn one in honor of my Grandpa, Eugene E. Eadie, who served on the USS NEW. Grandpa passed away 2 years ago. |

I have already started collecting Christmas cards for 2009. Do you have any left over cards that just didn't get used? I will surely take them off of your hands. I am hoping for donations of cards-even if it's only 2 or 3. It all adds up to smiles come Christmas time!Would your group, classroom or organization like to make some Easter cards to send to the troops? If you collect them, I will get them mailed overseas.I have had the pleasure of working with the Vietnam Veteran's of Washtenaw County Post #310 this past year. They send out care packages every 4-6 weeks to the troops overseas. I collect items for the care packages and help pack the boxes. Can you donate a 3 pound can of coffee??? The #310 donates them to the Veteran's Hospital in Ann Arbor. It makes a difference to those having to wait to see a doctor. It really doesn't take much to make a difference in someone's life. |
