| Welcome to Cards From Destiny |

How it all began... In the Fall of 2005, a co-worker of my Dad's, Randy Green, came to our house. I was 10 years old. He told me that his son, Cody Green, was in the Air Force and serving in Kirkuk, Iraq. I asked if he thought Cody might like a Christmas card from me even though we had never met. I was told to go the the anysoldier.com website and look up his name to get his address which I did. Anysoldier.com is a website where servicemen and women can leave postings of things that they need while serving away from home. I read Cody's listing and then some of the others. It didn't take long to realize that they were doing without a lot of things like shampoo and soap, but what they really wanted was cards and letters from home. I had $20 saved from babysitting and decided to buy cards for my family and friends to sign.  I was able to collect 578 cards in 3 weeks. Cody's family mailed those to him to distribute on his base. Cody emailed me and thanked me for what I had done. He said that those cards touched the men and women on the base and it helped to make their Christmas away from home a little easier to deal with. The more I read and heard about what the troops where dealing with, I knew had to continue to do what I could to show them we appreciated what they were doing. I bought Christmas cards on clearance with money that was given to me as a gift. I had everything I needed already and couldn't think of a better way to spend it. One card equals one smile and it was money well spent. I soon set a goal of sending 2,000 cards to the troops for Christmas 2006 but with help from my family, friends and people in the community, I was able to collect and send 3,600 greetings to the troops plus 200 goodie bags for Christmas morning filled with candy, chapstick, hot cocoa and more. In 2007 I continued asking people to sign cards and write letters. I set my goal for 4,000 cards and was able to send 7,406!! On December 6, 2007, The Washtenaw County (Michigan) Marine Corps League Detatchment #414, made me an Honorary Marine for my efforts in supporting the troops. Here I am trying to support the troops and the Veteran's are supporting me in my efforts! I was so touched and honored to be called a Marine. I met some brave men who served in World War II, The Korean War, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. I feel like I have a whole new big family. 2008 was a very busy year!! Over 14,000 cards were sent to very deserving men and women. People from across the country sent signed cards and letters for me to send to our military personnel. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #310, Ann Arbor, MI, sent thousands of cards for me. An Organization in Illinois called Operation Santa was very happy that I gave them over 5000 cards to put in home made stockings filled with goodies for the troops. Some quilters and friends in Belleville even sewed over 500 Christmas stockings to donate to this wonderful organization.
I had the great pleasure of meeting the founder of Operation Santa, Mrs. Patti Smith. Check out their website if you get the chance. She is doing wonderful things to support our troops! I'm glad I could be part of their support team. This year I have been volunteering my time to help fundraise with the USMCL Detachment #414. They are raising money to help support the volunteers at the VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor. I believe that close to $10,000 has been raised this year! In the spring I had the great honor of being asked to speak to a group of girl scouts and brownies about my project. It was a great feeling to see them all get excited about doing great things in the community. What we may consider a small good deed may mean the world to someone in need. It makes me feel good to go to the Vietnam Veteran's every 4-6 weeks with donations for care packages for the troops. We pack all kinds of goodies and hygeine products into big boxes. This is the second year that my family has been able to help the VVA with their annual pig roast and boy do we have fun! My dad and uncle help roast 3 pigs and get it ready for the carvers to do their thing to be able to serve it to the public. Me and my cousins run games and craft tables for the children. We painted pumpkins this year and also collected some Christmas cards for the troops as well. Thank you for visiting my web site and taking a interest in my project. Please remember that 1 card signed and sent = 1 smile to a hero!!Semper Fidelis Destiny Eadie Honorary Marine Founder of Cards From Destiny Proud American Teenager |
